In honor of those first historic performances in 1943, we are staging a new production of opera's most famous double bill. These two gripping tragedies were pulled from the headlines of the day. Mascagni's Sicilian melodrama, Cavalleria rusticana, features tenor Dominick Chenes in the role of Turiddu, Dana Beth Miller as his fallen ex-lover Santuzza, and, as the cuckold Alfio, bass-baritone Wayne Tigges.

Leoncavallo's Pagliacci notches up the drama with a clown driven to madness and murder. Playing the infamously betrayed Canio is internationally recognized tenor Frank Porretta, and his cheating wife Nedda is sung by Jessica Rose Cambio. Wayne Tigges portrays the jealous and vile Tonio in this tale, which remains as thrilling today as the day it premiered. >Metropolitan Opera Synopsis
