SIF Homebuilders - After A Workers' Compensation Claim Occurs

If a workers' compensation claim occurs, there are several steps you can take to minimize additional costs or loss of work for the injured worker.

• Report all claims immediately to your workers' compensation provider.

• Stay in contact with your injured worker regularly and ask about their medical condition and employment status. It ensures the injured worker that you are concerned about their recovery, and encourages them to return to work.

• Follow up with your claims adjuster if you have any questions about the status of the claim.

• Do not authorize any medical treatment or testing. Refer those calls to the claims adjuster assigned to the claim.

• If you have any knowledge or suspicion that an injured worker may be active outside of their medical restrictions or possibly working, report it to your claims adjuster immediately for investigation.

• Make modified work available if at all possible while the injured worker is undergoing medical treatment. The longer an employee is out of work, the harder it is to get them back to work. This will help control costs on that claim.
